  • A bone marrow donor who is completely unrelated to the recipient
  • A donor who is mismatched (tissue typing procedure incorrect)
  • Age – older recipients are more at risk to develop GVHD

  • If a recipient is CMV positive (cytomegalovirus) – people who are positive have CMV antibodies in their blood, and GVHD can develop if the recipient is negative
